The Angel of the North has publicly criticised cheap flight specialists Flybe over their ‘cost-cutter’ flights out of Newcastle airport. ‘I was really looking forward to a weekend break away from it all.’ The steel statue told the Evening Gazette. ‘I have been on my feet non-stop and the Flybe brochure offered this fantastic deal of three nights all in at a top hotel in Amsterdam.’
The A1/A167 landmark alleges that the service Flybe promised and actually delivered were miles apart. ‘I was promised plenty of leg room, even when I explained I was 66 feet tall. I also asked for a seat in the middle aisle so that I could spread my arms out, but instead they sat me right next to the window with an elderly couple from Redcar. I have never been so cramped in all my life – it was worse than when I went to visit my cousin down in Rio de Janeiro.’
